August Top5 Songs

 

  This August, most of the songs’ that made the playlist are the most impactful ones of the many I listened to throughout the month, starting with “Kode Pa Snor” by the Icelandic band Valravn, a band I was introduced to by a friend who owned a music shop. The song itself is a very soft and peaceful song which shows the range of dramatic intensity the band’s vocalist can deliver, with a mix of both electronic and acoustic instruments, a mixture that sounds folk, but with a different presentation, that borderlines on pop music.

Up next is “1982”, the remixed version by Sodom, an historic band in thrash metal, this version is amazingly heavy with incredible guitar solos and an ending section that reminds me of Slayer.

Then, is “Plume” by Kassogtha, a band I became acquainted with when they opened for Decapitated in Lisbon in March. And incredible track with great emotional intensity delivered by the lead singer, and a part of the last third of their conceptual album, Revolve.

Next is “Invisible Wounds”, by Fear Factory, who I was lucky to see live almost a year ago. This particular song was not a part of their setlist, but it’s my favourite one out of the album Digimortal, the last one to feature the classic lineup of Burton C. Bell on vocals, Dino Cazares on guitar, Christian Olde Wolbers on bass and Danny Herrera on drums. It is a melancholic song and the perfect one to close up the metal section of this playlist.

To conclude, I picked “Jesus Alone” by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, from their album Skeleton Tree, an album I bought after watching the documentary Once More With Feeling, which was filmed during this albums’ recording. It is the opening track to the album and, in my opinion the best, not only due to the lyrics, but to the creepy atmosphere that surrounds Nick Cave’s voice throughout.
