These last few months have been hectic with music related projects, both on the writing journalism side and performance side as well, as such my post recapping my Top5 playlists was delayed by two months. And so, this is going to be a lengthy post. As always I recommend you watch High Fidelity, since it was this movie that inspired me to begin making these playlists as well as their related blog posts.
Starting off with the April playlist, “So Raus” is a track by a German rapper which I didn’t know until I discovered this incredibly fun collaboration with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, it’s a fun song to listen to and the video is pretty funny, as well with Alligatoah making fun of AI produced (artistic) content.
Alice in Chains have been one of those bands that I have listened to since they were recommended to me by a guitar teacher when I first started taking lessons as a teenager. “Down in a Hole” is, to me, one of their best songs: sombre, depressing and also strangely comfortable to listen to.
The Money Shot is an incredibly fluid album by Puscifer, the mostly solo project of Tool’s Maynard James Keenan. Conceptual in a way, and with some incredible singles in it, “The Remedy” being, to me the best track of the album.
“Bridgeburner” by Mutoid Man is catchy as a hard rock/metal song can get, give it a couple listens and you’ll understand. At last, the song “Leaves of Yesteryear” by Green Carnation, an epic eight minute track with beautiful vocals and synths throughout.
And now, for the May Top 5 playlist! Ever since A Rush of Blood to the Head came out, I kept up with Coldplay releases until I suddenly stopped. However, songs like “Speed of Sound” have always been in the back of my head, especially during the month of May.
Hanabie are a Japanese metal-pop fusion band, and their single “Reiwa Dating Apps Generation” grabbed my attention and has been on rotation ever since the first listen, I highly recommend that you check them out when they make their live debut in Portugal this June the 25th at Lisboa Ao Vivo.
When I first saw the live drum footage of Danny Carey playing “Pneuma”, I was blown away by the cheer skill and ease with which the drummer played through this constantly time signature changing song. Watching the video has been a routine for me, and also listening to the song alone, an amazing track by Tool, who have definitely made a classic.
I saw Toxikull at the Massacre Fest this year, the closer of their set, “Metal Defender” is an incredible anthem for metal fans and amazingly catchy. I highly recommend you check out the rest of their discography, especially the singles project they released a few years ago.
Riverside are a polish progressive metal band and their single Wasteland is an amazing song that takes through a both sad and uplifting journey. I highly recommend you check out the album in full.
And so it ends my recap of both April and May Top 5 songs, listen to the playlist in order if you wish. If not, then listen to every song, for they deserve it, and check out and support the artists in any way possible.
